FASHION: Minnie Mouse the Muse

With spring only a matter of weeks away, along with it, the launch of the Australian Spring/Summer 12/13 collections in the up-coming Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. We wonder, what are the new season must haves? And what are the inspirations, and in some cases the muse, behind the collections?

The hot spring trends of neon’s, pastels and florals are well underway in Australia however it is a whole new story on the other side of the world, London to be precise. London Fashion week, commencing Friday the 14th of September, has a new muse to present the Spring/Summer Collections for 2013, Minnie Mouse.

While this initially doesn’t make any sense, it actually makes complete sense. The popular nail polish label O.P.I recently launched their Minnie Mouse range, and now it seems that Minnie Mouse is about to blow up and become a new trend on the street-style scene.

The iconic silhouette of both Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the three circles that resemble the Disney icon, will be the muse and incorporated in the up-coming designs of such labels as Giles Deacon, Michael van der Ham, Richard Nicoll and Piers Atkinson. Accessories will also be contributed with creators Katie Hiller, Lulu Guiness and Terry de Havilland; further collaborations are still in the working process, including jewellery, hairstylists and more fashion labels.

The Minnie Mouse inspired pieces are all one-off and are going to be auctioned off in conjunction with Ebay. The money raised will contribute to the British Fashion Council/BAZAAR Fashion Arts Foundation to create further awareness for all things fashion, film, music and the arts, in the hope to enhance relationships between each of the creative aspects.

What a way to make scene in the fashion world, incorporating the most recognised symbol – one we all grew up with.  A big way for all the creative teams involved to be seen and heard on the runways, and in London nonetheless, a large contributing city in all things innovative. It is also a gateway to the European Disneyland (based in France).

This is what fashion and art are all about, working all aspects of fashion and beauty towards one goal that consistently surprise and allure fashion-lovers. We can’t wait any longer, only a few weeks and Minnie will make her come-back in couture.
