We love covering new talents on Melbourne Girl… That’s why when we spotted Michelle Grace Hunder’s folio (via a twitter shout out) we knew we wanted to share the love on a Photography post!
Michelle is a self taught Melbourne based photographer who only picked up a camera two years ago and has moved quickly from hobbiest to professional. Never happier than when taking photos, Michelle has now formed an immense passion for creating bold and powerful images.
Being a former model she draws on the experience of being on the other side of the lens to evoke beauty and vulnerability in those she works with, and is emotionally invested in creating images that both her and her models will feel proud of. She also has a passion for live music, her genre of choice being hip hop, and over recent times has shot at the gigs of some biggest names in the industry. Michelle has recently been invited to exhibit at fine art gallery – Obscura in St Kilda East.
The title of Michelle’s exhibition “Auduce” – the Italian word meaning “Bold and Daring” rings true to the overriding style and nature of her work and many of her exhibited pieces feature Australian professional dancers. In these works Michelle has taken the dancers away from the traditional studio scene to capture them in an unexpected environment.
Her images juxtapose the delicate, poised subjects with the freeing and often harsh bounds of nature. Asking herself ‘where would you never expect to see a dancer’, Michelle was led outdoors which allowed her to turn the graceful human form into a work of art, in and amongst the world.
Michelle’s love of fashion imagery has also led to collaborating with Melbourne designer Gabrielle Stephens of ‘Collecting Pretty Boys’ who’s designs will be featured throughout this exhibition.
